Project Overview
Hate Rising is a documentary that explores the growth and impact of hate-based rhetoric and extremist movements in the United States through the lens of award-winning journalist Jorge Ramos. The film follows Ramos as he gains rare access to groups across the far-right spectrum — from white nationalist organizations to the Ku Klux Klan — and juxtaposes those experiences with firsthand accounts from individuals targeted by hate, offering a nuanced and deeply human perspective on the broader social and political divides in America.
Approach
Documentary filmmaking of this nature requires both strategic foresight and empathy. On Hate Rising, I helped build infrastructure that allowed the director, journalists, and crew to navigate sensitive subject matter with respect and clarity, while capturing footage that remained true to the lived experiences of participants. My focus was on creating a collaborative environment where logistical challenges were anticipated and addressed, allowing the filmmakers to remain centered on the story itself.
Why This Project Matters
Hate Rising stands at the intersection of journalism, documentary storytelling, and social relevance. This project is an example of work that blends cultural observation with rigorous production support, a reminder that complex human stories require both heart and structure. It reflects my belief in the power of documentary to reveal truths and foster empathy, even in the most challenging contexts.
